After Nuno‘s last post in this blog, and in the aftermath of the last few months of low posting frequency and lack of will to post, I am too putting away my blogging pen for the time being. This 7-friend project was really fun while it lasted, but now that we as a group lost the time to post because of our jobs, studies, and our lives in general, the fun is mostly gone. Maybe we’ll be back in the future, maybe not. For now, the almost 5500 views we’ve had from more than 80 countries and the 175 posts we’ve made sharing our views on music leave us with a sense of a job well done

In my last post I’ll show you an nice cover of an amazing Pink Floyd song by a 12-year-old Korean boy with a great talent. Goodbye Blue Sky!

Semisonic, that’s right! They will be the soundtrack for my last post in this blog.

It’s been almost a year (3/4 of it, to be more precise) since we “started the fire“, many posts have been written, some great  songs (at least in length, right Lourenço?) were shared, many genres were covered and several issues other than music were referred through our musical journey. But I believe it’s time for me (and me only, it’s not mean the end of the blog!) to jump out of the boat. I leave an infinite list of songs that I would like to share with you, but if you like music you’ll get to know them eventually.

This time of the year always makes me a bit nostalgic, and being back from a month in the East after having finished my masters degree after 5 years of a lot of work did help me enter that state of mind. That said, it’s no wonder that I went digging on my old CDs and started listening to some songs that I listened throughout my childhood/youth. That’s what I’m going to share with you today

When I was a kid (long before I turned into metal, we’ll get there later), I mostly listened to the stuff that my parents liked or the CDs peopled offered me as gifts (no internet in those times…). Either way, I don’t really know what led me to the greatest band ever: Queen, but I sure am glad I became almost obsessed with their music! One song that I always loved was Machines (Back to Humans) from their Works album. Probably not that well known, most people dislike it because of the electronic effects they used, but the energy, the riffing and the strange vocals always grabbed my atention. Here ’tis:

Another band that I listened to a lot in those times was The Police, this time by my mother’s hand. I really liked songs like Synchronicity II, Roxanne, Invisible Sun, within others. Here’s my favourite back then, Message in a Bottle:

In my 7th grade (I was 12 then), I started to think that I should listen to what other kids were listening, so I borrowed an Eminem album from a cousin and started to listen to songs like The Real Slim Shady, but that didn’t last long. A friend of mine, (thanks David!), lent me one of the best metal albums of all time: The Black Album by Metallica, and I got so hooked up, that for almost 6 years I only listened to metal. This is the song that showed me my darker side… So much for what the other kids liked

How I got into progressive stuff is a completely different story, so I’ll leave that to another post
